Perturbation theory for weakly coupled two-dimensional layers

چکیده
A key issue in two-dimensional structures composed of atom-thick sheets of electronic materials is the dependence of the properties of the combined system on the features of its parts. Here, we introduce a simple framework for the study of the electronic structure of commensurate and incommensurate layered assemblies based on perturbation theory. Within this framework, we calculate the band structure of commensurate and twisted bilayers of graphene (Gr) and of a Gr/h-BN heterostructure, which we compare with reference full-scale density functional theory calculations. This study presents a general methodology for computationally efficient calculations of two-dimensional materials and also demonstrates that for relatively large twist in the graphene bilayer the perturbation of electronic states near the Fermi level is negligible.

One-Particle vs. Two-Particle Crossover in Weakly Coupled Hubbard Chains and Ladders: Perturbative Renormalization Group Approach
Physical nature of dimensional crossovers in coupled one-dimensional systems has currently provoked a great deal of controversy. Recent discovery of the superconductivity in the doped spin ladder under pressure has stimulated us to study the dimensional crossover problem in the weakly coupled ladder system. In the present work, based on the perturbative renormarization-group approach (PRG) deve...
متن کاملDistributed Stochastic Optimization for Weakly Coupled Systems with Applications to Wireless Communications
In this paper, a framework is proposed to simplify solving the infinite horizon average cost problem for the weakly coupled multi-dimensional systems. Specifically, to address the computational complexity issue, we first introduce a virtual continuous time system (VCTS) and obtain the associated fluid value function. The relationship between the VCTS and the original discrete time system is fur...
متن کاملConvergence of Perturbation Expansions in Fermionic Models Part 2: Overlapping Loops
We improve on the abstract estimate obtained in Part 1 by assuming that there are constraints imposed by ‘overlapping momentum loops’. These constraints are active in a two dimensional, weakly coupled fermion gas with a strictly convex Fermi curve. The improved estimate is used in another paper to control everything but the sum of all ladder contributions to the thermodynamic Green’s functions....
متن کاملCoupled fixed point results for weakly related mappings in partially ordered metric spaces
In the present paper, we show the existence of a coupled fixed point for a non-decreasing mapping in partially ordered complete metric space using a partial order induced by an appropriate function $phi$. We also define the concept of weakly related mappings on an ordered space. Moreover common coupled fixed points for two and three weakly related mappings are also proved in the same space.
متن کاملA Colorful Wake for Gerhard Soff
Abstract. We calculate the wake induced in a hot QCD plasma by a fast parton in the framework of linear response theory. We discuss two scenarios: (i) a weakly coupled quark-gluon plasma described by hard-thermal loop perturbation theory and (ii) a strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma which resembles a quantum liquid. We show that a Mach cone can appear in the second scenario, but not in the fir...
